Volunteer opportunities with the ZHCDC can be done from anywhere, including the comfort of your own home.

Volunteer Spotlight:


Angeline has been a faithful volunteer at ZHCDC for 10 years. Ms. Flagg previously worked twenty years as a day care/preschool teacher. She attends Neriah Church where Bishop Albert J. Lindsey Jr. is the pastor and Stephanie Lindsey is the first Lady. Ms. Flagg is a member of the Mother’s Board. Angeline attended the Holland Institute of Ministry (H.I.M), where Pastor Bettye Holland Williams is the founder and teacher. Through the H.I.M she earned a Certificate of Advance Teaching in Christian Education. Angeline loves to read, listen to music and enjoys being with her family and friends.


Here are a few opportunities:

English/Spanish Translator
Translate documents (fliers, brochures, web material) from English to Spanish.
Frequency: As needed

Grant Researcher and Writer
Research appropriate funding sources and opportunities (local, state and national) for the Zion Hill Community Development Corporation. Prepare initial paperwork and work with the Executive Director to write and submit grant proposals and requests for funding.
Frequency: Ongoing – Multiple volunteers needed

Social Media Coordinators
Are you always on Facebook? Do you love to send Tweets? If so, the ZHCDC needs your help. This is a great volunteer opportunity for someone who spends most of their day on the computer and doesn’t have a lot of time to volunteer in person. You can do what you love and send out Tweets and update our Facebook page to keep the information fresh and keep the community informed.
Frequency: Minimum weekly updates — Multiple volunteers needed

Marketing Coordinators
Volunteers with Marketing skills &experience are needed to help brand and expose the ZHCDC and The Z Closet to individuals and businesses in the community.
Frequency: Ongoing/as needed—Multiple volunteers needed

Graphic Designers
Help us create awesome brochures, fliers, postcards, emails and other documents.
Frequency: Ongoing/as needed—Multiple volunteers needed

Great Opportunity for Retired Professionals
You will have an opportunity to develop a brand new mentoring program for women in our permanent supportive housing program. The role will include identifying best practices, creating a plan to recruit and develop mentors, developing training documents for mentors, etc.
Frequency: Project related—A virtual group of volunteers will be great for this project.

Not-so-Extreme Couponing
We know that there are a lot of people out there that are really good at couponing. We are looking for people to serve our community by volunteering to coupon and donate personal care/hygiene items, laundry supplies, cleaning supplies, and paper products to our organization. The families we serve are consistently in need of these types of items and it would be a really big blessing to them.

Workshop Facilitators
Facilitators with different backgrounds and abilities are needed to share information with the participants in the Stepping Ahead II Program and the Permanent Supportive Housing Program. Workshop topics include but are not limited to: financial literacy, computer literacy, stress management, interviewing skills, entrepreneurship, etc.

Z Closet Volunteers
Volunteers are needed to help sort and organize clothing donated to the Z Closet.

A picture is worth a thousand words and we need you to make sure that the voices of the families we serve are heard. You’ll have the chance to be a part of our great events and take pictures for our website, brochures, fliers, etc. Whether you are an aspiring photographer or professional, this is a great opportunity to gain experience and build your portfolio.

Event Coordinators
Event Coordinators will be responsible for working with the Executive Director in planning and executing ZHCDC events. We are planning a number of small and medium sized events this year, and are looking for individuals who are willing to help organize and run the events. Some of the events we are planning include:“Come See the CDC” (monthly);Hot Jazz for a Cool Cause (Oct 2012); Lordstroms (Dec 2012); Annual 5k Race & 1 Mile Fun Run (Spring 2013)

Volunteer Coordinator
Do you have an outgoing personality? Are you a ‘people person’? If so, please help us recruit, train and recognize the folks who volunteer at the ZHCDC.
Frequency: Ongoing, Multiple volunteers needed

Fundraising – Sponsorship Coordinator
Help us obtain sponsorships for all upcoming events. Sponsorships help us reduce our administrative costs for each event and help to ensure that we maximize the dollars available to help families in the community.
Frequency: Multiple volunteers needed

As the women in our housing program become more self-sufficient they often need help moving to their new home. Individuals that have a van, truck or large SUV will be most helpful in assisting the residents in moving.
Frequency: As needed

Intake Counselor
In this role you will assist individuals in our Stepping Ahead II program to develop a draft budget and ensure all paperwork is submitted so they can get assistance paying their rent or utilities.
Frequency: Monthly – multiple volunteers needed

Holiday Event
Frequency: Once a year in December – Multiple volunteers needed
